Who Can Apply? Eligibility Criteria
You ARE eligible if:
- You are a South African citizen, permanent resident, or refugee

- You are unemployed and not receiving any income
- You are not receiving any other social grant
- You are not receiving UIF benefits
You are NOT eligible if:
- You receive any other SASSA grant
- You are employed and earning an income
- You receive UIF payments
- You are a student receiving NSFAS funding

- South African ID Number: Your 13-digit identity document number
- Cellphone Number: An active South African cellphone number registered in your name
- Banking Details (Optional): Bank name, account number, and branch code if you want payments made directly to your bank account
Step-by-Step Application Guide
Method 1: Online Application
Go to https://srd.sassa.gov.za. Ensure you're on the official .gov.za domain.
On the homepage, click the "Apply Now" button to start your application.
Enter your 13-digit South African ID number carefully.
Enter the cellphone number you used when applying.
You'll receive a 6-digit code via SMS. Enter this code to verify your identity.
Fill in your personal details, address, and choose your payment method.
Review all information, then click "Submit Application". Save your reference number.
Method 2: WhatsApp Application

- Send "Hi" to start the conversation
- Follow the prompts to apply for the SRD grant
- You'll receive an OTP via SMS to verify your identity

Important: Cellphone Number
